Discover South Africa's beautiful Cape Town, Zambia's world-famous Victoria Falls, and safari in Botswana's legendary Chobe National Park, with its massive herds of elephants.
Step out of the safari vehicle and experience Africa on foot! These walks get you close to a wide variety of game on foot and are only possible because of the highly trained, expert guides who accompany you and intimately know the territory and behavior of these animals.
The elephant is the icon of Hwange, and our private concession at Nehimba Lodge is set right on the elephants’ migration trail. They often congregate by the hundreds at Nehimba, and the large bulls of the herd enjoy our lodge’s swimming pool as a gathering spot and a handy source of drinking water. You’ll find yourself dining by candle light on the lodge’s deck within just a few yards of these mighty creatures and be able to observe their social interactions—it’s unforgettable.
Enjoy two rail experiences that harken back to yesteryear: enter Hwange aboard a restored vintage sleeper train, with a three-course meal on board. In northern Hwange, board an open-air vintage rail car for a morning ride that provides a fantastic opportunity for photography en route to the next leg of the adventure.
You’ll experience Hwange by rail, by open-sided 4WD vehicle, and on foot with your highly trained guide. You also observe wildlife from a unique waterhole-level blind where you’ll get fantastic photos and see the animals at incredibly close range.
In a land where local villages once had nothing to gain from safari tourism, we and our Zimbabwe partners are changing that by actively involving communities. Half the lodges on our safari are on land rented from the community, providing income and employment. We’ve engaged in programs to help upgrade local schools and provide safe drinking water and health care. With the benefits of wildlife conservation more tangible, there has been a dramatic decrease in poaching. Your presence has a direct positive impact on communities and wildlife.
Read more about Community and ConservationThe Zambezi River spills into the chasm of Batoka Gorge at Victoria Falls, a thunderous World Heritage Site and the unforgettable introduction to our safari. We enjoy high tea at the colonial-era Victoria Falls Hotel, hike a trail directly across from the falls, and stay at Gorges Lodge, with its dramatic setting 600 feet above the gorge, where Verreaux’s eagles and lanner falcons soar by at eye level.
