Overview
One of the world’s least-known safari destinations—Zimbabwe—just happens to be one of the best. This stunning country has the most stringent training regime in all Africa for its professional guides. As a result, you enjoy one of the most incomparable safari experiences at its best—getting close to big game while exploring on foot with an incredibly experienced and highly trained guide. Our safari explores Zimbabwe’s phenomenal Hwange National Park, where elephants outnumber annual visitors. Hwange, at 5,657 square miles, has a level of biodiversity matched only by the Serengeti in Tanzania and is full of wildlife. We balance active days with overnights in award-winning lodges, partnering with them to promote wildlife conservation by engaging local villagers in the effort—you’ll meet some of the villagers and see the direct positive impact of your safari on both the wildlife and the people. On this safari, you’ll also watch elephants and many other animals from a special underground viewing blind, and stay at a lodge where you dine within a few yards of mighty bull elephants who come to drink from the lodge’s pool. Join us in Zimbabwe for the safari of a lifetime.
Attention to detail at every level, consideration of the location of each lodging in relationship to the total trip experience, anticipation of the client's needs as to meals—it was perfection in itself!

Itinerary at a Glance
Day 1
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Mile-wide Victoria Falls plunges 400 feet into the Zambezi River, creating an otherworldly spectacle of swirling mists visible for miles.
Days 2-5
Camelthorn Lodge / Hwange National Park
We enjoy breathtaking views as we tour the falls, then board the Elephant Express, a private open-air railway car that brings us to Hwange National Park. At 5,657 square miles, Hwange has a level of biodiversity matched only by the Serengeti in Tanzania. Elephants in Hwange actually outnumber visitors! From Camelthorn, our active game drives and game walks bring us close to phenomenal wildlife. Expect great sightings of lion, zebra, giraffe, and the local cheetah clan known as the “Bomani brothers.” On a village visit, we walk to school with the local children—and see how we do at learning Ndebele, their “click” language. We’ll also see the new rhino sanctuary built on village land and guarded by the village conservation team. Our lodge is set on community land, so your presence directly benefits the community.
Days 6-7
Nehimba Lodge / Hwange National Park
Back on the Elephant Express, we enjoy a fantastic view of the Ngamo Plains as we head to dreamy Nehimba Lodge, surrounded by rock outcrops in northern Hwange’s mopane woodland and sand river environment. Our chalets encircle a waterhole beloved by throngs of elephant—we’ll see the “ellies” right from the dining deck during meals—it’s a thrilling sight!
Days 8-10
Victoria Falls River Lodge / Zambezi National Park
In Zambezi National Park, our riverside camp positions us for canoeing along the Siansimba Islands and a private Zambezi cruise at sunset as crimson colors reflect off the tranquil waters. Depart on Day 10 via Victoria Falls or join one of our extensions.
