Sergio first fell in love with the world’s largest rainforest—the Amazon, and the world’s largest tropical wetland—the Pantanal, when traveling there for field work as an undergraduate in biology. His enthusiasm for what he discovered led him to focus his studies on the wildlife in this unique ecosystem. He earned his master’s degree in ecology and biodiversity conservation, and has published several papers and articles on ecology and climate change; he has also described a new species of fish in the Pantanal basin. Sergio began working as a guide while doing his field research, and has considered it a dream job ever since. He is devoted to sharing his in-depth knowledge of natural history and animal behavior with fellow travelers, and in addition to guiding in the Pantanal, he earned his PhD in Environmental Sciences in 2020.
