We explore along “the fairest Cape,” hike trails along breathtaking Tsitsikamma Coast and head into the remote Drakensbergs Mountains of Zulu country. For a grand finale, we set out for three days of phenomenal game viewing at one of the most exclusive private reserves in the world, Londolozi, enjoying the ultimate in wildlife viewing as we encounter lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, and cheetah in the spectacular habitats of Greater Kruger National Park.

Days 1-2
Cape Town / Cape Peninsula

In spectacular Cape Town, we view the city from atop famous Table Mountain, and the next day, head out for a visit to the legendary Cape of Good Hope, where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. Along the way, we explore the penguin rookeries at Boulders Beach, the historic wine estate of Groot Constantia, founded in 1685, and the acclaimed botanical gardens at Kirstenbosch.

Days 3-5
The Garden Route

Forested mountains plunge to the Indian Ocean on the Garden Route. Here we hike breathtaking trails past tidal pools, indigenous forest, and along the magnificent rocky coastline at Tsitsikamma National Park. Overnights are at The Fernery, a gorgeous hideaway with serene chalets tucked along a river.

Days 6-7
Drakensberg Mountains

We hike trails across the dramatic Drakensbergs, an extraordinary landscape of cliffs, buttresses, and spires. Our deluxe mountain lodge features spacious thatched chalets with amazing views of the Drakensberg’s natural amphitheater.

Days 8-11
Gameviewing at Londolozi Game Reserve / Greater Kruger

No fences lie between Londolozi and renowned Kruger National Park, and the combined ecosystem offers one of the highest and most diverse wildlife populations in Africa. We savor amazing gameviewing at award-winning Londolozi, encountering lion, elephant, buffalo, white rhino, and more—and Londolozi’s leopard tracking is out of this world. Depart on Day 11, or join our Shumbalala or Cape Town Extensions.

What the Trip is Like

The trip is rated Level 2+, moderate to strenuous. This is a luxury hotel-and-lodge-based adventure tour with several days of walking and hiking. Some of the hikes could be considered a bit strenuous, but there are easier walking options available. Although this is not a particularly rigorous trip, we still recommend that each participant undertake a preparatory program of physical conditioning. Daily walking or regular hiking, jogging, stair-climbing, and so forth are excellent preparatory exercises.
