Dr. Richard Terrile

Richard Terrile PhD, is an astronomer and the director of the Center for Evolutionary Computation and Automated Design at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. As a member of the Voyager imaging team, Dr. Terrile discovered four of the moons around Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, and took the first pictures of another solar system around the nearby star Beta Pictoris. His other interests include planetary rings, geology and exploration; the development of medical instrumentation for tissue identification during neurosurgery; artificial intelligence and robotics; and the future of technology and how we relate to it. Dr. Terrile also offers science consulting for the movie industry, and was featured in The Farthest, a Voyager documentary shown on PBS. He is a veteran of seven solar eclipses and a frequent lecturer on total solar eclipses, as well as an expert on total solar eclipses and eclipse photography.
