Resources
Nepal is the greatest hiking destination in the world, and on this Private Journey, you experience two of Nepal’s most spectacular mountain realms—the Annapurnas and the Everest region—on one trip! The adventure begins with a trek in the subtropical foothills of the mighty Annapurnas, where slate-roofed Hindu hilltribe villages nestle below towering peaks including Annapurna and Machapuchare. In this roadless world, hiking is the only way to get around and the mountain views are more spectacular with ever bend in the trail. Then fly up to the world-renowned Everest region, home to the Sherpas, to hike amid whitewashed villages and Tibetan Buddhist monasteries festooned with prayer flags. Glorious Himalayan giants including Mt. Everest itself are a feast for the eyes in every direction. You have your own private guide, and at night, you enjoy the comfort of a mountain lodge with a private room and a private bath. There’s no better way to experience the wondrous scenery, welcoming hospitality, and diverse cultures of Nepal.

Days 1-2
Kathmandu, City of Temples
In bustling Kathmandu, wander the narrow streets in the Thamel bazaar, visit golden-roofed temples, and enjoy a guided exploration of the extraordinary sights and sounds of Kathmandu, including Pashupatinath, with its temples to Shiva and devout sadhus (holy men).
Days 3-5
Annapurna Lodge to Lodge Trek
Fly to Pokhara and set off into the Annapurna foothills with your guide and porters. Your trek route is designed to grant you superb views of the Annapurnas (so close they seem within arm’s reach!) as you hike from one lodge to the next, visiting picturesque hamlets and villages. The Annapurnas are a treasure house of traditional cultures, and the mix of peoples is one of its delights.
Days 6-7
Enchanting Pokhara Valley
Descend through wooded hillsides and terraced farmlands to the floor of the lush Pokhara Valley for an overnight at the Shangri La Village Resort. Enjoy a refreshing dip in the hotel’s pool and gaze on panoramic Annapurna views from your room and from the spacious gardens. The next day return to Kathmandu for overnight.
Days 8-12
Everest Lodge to Lodge Trek
A spectacular mountain flight brings you to Lukla, where you join your Sherpa guide to hike stunning trails lined with Tibetan Buddhist shrines, visit ancient whitewashed villages, and feast your eyes on magnificent Himalayan panoramas, including the ice-draped peak of Thamserku (21,729'), sacred Khumbila (18,800'), holy to the Sherpa people, and of course, Mt. Everest itself, gleaming in the distance.
Days 13-15
Kathmandu
Return to Kathmandu for last-minute shopping or a visit to Swayambu, the great hilltop temple with its painted “all seeing” eyes of Buddha. Depart on Day 15.

What the Trip is Like
This trip is rated Level 4+, moderate to strenuous. Most of the hiking is below altitudes between 5,000 and 12,500 feet. Your guide hikes along with you to make sure that you find the way and to share their knowledge of the local culture. There is ample opportunity for exploring the villages and beautiful surroundings near the lodges, and of course for photography. You carry only a daypack on the hikes. For your own enjoyment, we recommend that you make a special effort to be in good physical condition. Daily brisk walking and/or regular hiking (or using a stair-climbing machine at your gym) are excellent preparatory exercises. You should wear sturdy, well-broken-in hiking boots for maximum comfort on the trail.
