Utah's Mighty Five Private Journey

Hike in Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands, and Raft the Colorado River

Trip Level

The trip is level 3-4, Moderate to Strenuous, depending on your choice of hiking options. While hiking, you will carry only a daypack with water bottle, sunscreen, camera, and anything else you want with you while on the trail. Most hiking is between 4,000 and 7,000 feet. For your own enjoyment, we recommend you make a special effort to be in good physical condition. Daily brisk walking and/or regular hiking are excellent preparatory exercises. You should wear sturdy, well-broken in hiking boots for maximum comfort on the trail. Accommodations are in comfortable hotels and lodges.

Please note that your Trip Leader may make adjustments to the itinerary and hiking routes, depending on local weather and trail conditions.

Most of the constructed trails in Utah’s parks go over rocky paths and natural slabs of sandstone and through sections of soft sand and dirt. Trail conditions can be primitive in some spots, so you should be able to hike on uneven surfaces, occasionally downhill over loose, sandy terrain. Hiking boots with ankle support are required. The hike in The Narrows in Zion National Park requires wading through a shallow river but special shoes and equipment are provided for you.

Moderate crowds and temperatures in April and May and in September-October make these months the ideal time to visit Utah’s national parks. Spring brings active wildlife and blooming wildflowers, while autumn is photogenic with colorful foliage along scenic drives.
