From Almaty to Moscow aboard the Golden Eagle

What to Know Before You Go

PASSPORT
A valid passport is required for participation i this program. It must be valid for at least six (6) months after you return home. If you do not have a passport, or if it is not valid for the correct length of time, you should apply for one as soon as possible. Please be sure you have at least one page for each country visited available in your passport for entry/exit stamps, and secure additional pages if necessary. We suggest that you carry a photocopy of your passport’s information page when you travel.
VISAS
U.S. citizens require a visa for entry into Russia, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. (No visa is required for U.S. citizens for entry into Kazakhstan). Further instructions for all passengers will be provided in a visa update letter, which you will receive approximately 3 months prior to departure.

An invitation letter is required to apply for Russia, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.  In order to obtain the invitation letters, you should provide a scanned copy of your passport, in color, and a passport-style photograph. The copies should be complete with no corners or edges missing and no blurred images. Visas cannot be requested more than 3 months prior to entry.

It is suggested that all visas be requested at the same time through the same Visa service.  Please contact our office for more information on the recommended visa service, Passport Visas Express, or follow the link on the Wilderness Travel website to Passport Visas Express website.

PLEASE NOTE: Nationals of countries other than the U.S. should check with the nearest consulates for specific visa and entry requirements for their entire itinerary, including both the group arrangements and any travel prior to or after the program.
MEDICAL
We recommend checking the Center for Disease Control at www.cdc.gov should you have any international health concerns.
INOCULATIONS
Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before your trip.  However, no inoculations are currently required for entry into any of the countries visited on this trip.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Currency on board the Golden Eagle is US Dollars and Euros, and only cash payments can be accepted. Each cabin has a safe in which to store any valuables, such as cash. There will be little need for currency on board, other than for laundry, additional bar bills and on board souvenirs. It is possible to run a ‘tab’ on board and make one payment at the end of the tour.

We recommend you travel with small denominations and clean dollar bills for use off the train, as marked or torn US Dollar bills are sometimes not accepted. You will only require money for souvenirs and any shopping you may wish to do off the train. This can be paid for in local currency and in some instances in US Dollars. Your Tour Manager and/or guides will advise you on how, and if necessary, where to change money.
