Overview
Mighty glaciers carved Norway’s epic landscapes and the grand-scale majesty is evident everywhere, from snow-capped peaks to deep blue fjords. We’ll be surrounded by nature’s splendor as we explore two spectacular fjords—Sognefjord and ethereal Hardangerfjord. We’ll hike across high passes, through lush orchards, along ridgetops above the fjords, and even on the ice of a glacier (if conditions are right), with plenty of options for a peaceful dip in the fjords at our waterside hotels. In between, we explore villages, taste the wares at family-run farms, and enjoy a private musical performance in a historic setting.
What a great trip this was. Loved the itinerary and were kept busy on a daily basis with all kinds of fun activities. Traveling with the leaders was an absolute blast (not to mention that the weather was perfect)! I would highly recommend this trip.

Itinerary at a Glance
Days 1-3
Bergen / Sognefjord / Fløyen
From charming Bergen, a funicular carries us up Mt. Fløyen for a panoramic hike, and the next day we ferry through Sognefjord, the longest fjord in Norway and one of the most breathtaking landscapes on the planet. Above the tiny fjord-side town of Flåm, we’ll visit a 12th century stave church and a nearby museum for insights into the culture of the Vikings. Our chartered RIB (rigid inflatable boat) takes us through UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord to see the glacial carving of the world’s narrowest fjord (too narrow for big cruise ships!), and we hike to a family-run goat farm for a delicious homemade lunch.
Days 4-7
Hardangerfjord / Ulvik / Lofthus
After a ride on the historic Flåm Railway, we hike through farmlands down to our hotel in Ulvik, nestled along Hardangerfjord in Norway’s orchard country. We’ll hike to a family-run apple farm for lunch and cider tasting, then ferry to the tranquil hamlet of Lofthus, picturesquely set along the fjord and famous for its orchards. We can visit the cottage of composer Edvard Grieg in town, and our hotel offers rowboats for an evening paddle in the fjord.
Days 8-11
Utne / Folgefonna Glacier / Bergen
We hike along the Kinso River past waterfalls, then head to the Folgefonna Glacier for a fantastic day of glacier walking (weather dependent, no experience necessary). Views from atop the glacier extend over magnificent Hardangerfjord and, on a clear day, out to the North Sea. Depart on Day 11 via Bergen.
