What to Know Before You Go

A valid passport is required for travel to Myanmar. Be sure to check the expiration date. Your passport must be valid for six months after the conclusion of your trip. It is a good idea to carry photocopies of your passport photo page in case your passport is lost or as an additional piece of identification, as well as two extra passport photos.

A visa is required for US Citizens traveling to Myanmar. You can apply for your Myanmar visa 90 days prior to travel. We suggest using a visa service such as our recommended passport and visa processing service, Passport Visas Express (www.passportvisasexpress.com).

We recommend checking the Center for Disease Control should you have any international health concerns.

Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before your trip. These vaccines include measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine, and your yearly flu shot. Additional vaccinations include Hepatitis A and Typhoid, to protect from contaminated food or water in Myanmar, regardless of where you are eating or staying. The CDC recommends this vaccine for most travelers, especially if you are staying with friends or relatives, visiting smaller cities or rural areas, or if you are an adventurous eater. You may further want to consider: Japanese Encephalitis, Hepatitis B, Malaria, Rabies and Yellow Fever. Please consult with your physician or travel doctor about these things before you go.
