Safari in Three Epic Destinations of Southern Africa

Trip Level

This trip is rated Level 2. It is a luxury camping and lodge safari with game viewing by 4WD vehicle. It can be enjoyed by anyone in reasonably good health. On safari, there are long driving days over rugged dirt track.

Weather

In the Okavango Delta, the best game viewing is during the “dry” season, late March to October. Because of the minimal rainfall during this season, the bush turns golden brown and in many areas is beaten flat, so game viewing is easier and animals concentrate around major water sources. Typically the temperatures are in the high 70sF during the day, dipping down to the 50sF and lower at night.

In Hwange National Park, May to August are the coldest months, with daytime temperatures in the high 70sF but cold nights, often as low as 40F. It is very dry, and that attracts the wildlife to waterholes, making game viewing ideal. Zimbabwe has a mild climate because of its altitude (about 3,000 feet above sea level).
