Stimela Star

Our entry into Hwange National Park is aboard a vintage train. The Stimela Star is a private overnight sleeper train that has recently been reconditioned. Harkening back to the by-gone era of travel by rail, you’ll enjoy drinks in the bar car, a leisurely three-course dinner in the dining car, and perhaps hear tales of the early years of rail travel in Africa before retiring to your private sleeping compartment. Twin-bedded or single cabins are snug but roomy enough for two for the overnight, and have electricity and plenty of luggage space. Shared toilet and shower facilities are set at either end of each carriage. We awaken the next morning to find our safari vehicles waiting to take us directly out on safari while our luggage is transported separately to our nearby lodge. Most of our travelers have found the experience of the Stimela Star to be a unique and delightful addition to their adventure, and a way of greatly simplifying access to Eastern Hwange. Please realize, however, that this is not a modern luxury train experience, and at least until about midnight, the train has a bit of movement due to the historic tracks it travels on. You will be traveling along the "Cape Town to Cairo" route envisioned by Cecil Rhodes in the 19th century!
