Stephan Renard was born in Grenoble in the French Alps and grew up in the wild and remote Vercors region of the Rhône-Alpes, where he gained his passion for hiking, climbing, and skiing. A professional mountain leader and ski instructor since his youth, he loves outdoor pursuits of every kind and also has an affinity for jazz music, French and American literature, and Irish culture (acquired during his years of guiding French tours in Ireland).
Stephan is a delight. His knowledge and passion for the mountains and for France become obvious very quickly. He has a great low-key demeanor and was always one step ahead in planning for the next days hike.
Stephan was not only knowledgeable and professional, but also highly entertaining. He and the other leaders enhanced our appreciation and enjoyment of a wondrously beautiful area far beyond what we could have done on our own. His unobtrusive attention to the capabilities of each individual as well as the group was instrumental in creating great group interaction both on and off the trail.
Stephan was very supportive and always willing to help. His knowledge of the area and passion for the mountains were remarkable.
Stephan was a premier guide who knew the mountains and the country customs inside and out. He was professional and yet easy to converse with.
Stephan is so knowledgeable and passionate about the plants, flowers, animals, and geology. I don't know how he could see the chamois crossing the rock face, but he did!
Excellent group leader. Professional, connected, knew the trails well, steady, calm, and supportive—an enjoyable guy.
Stephan was outstanding, very caring and patient.
