Tom Ives

Tom Ives' interest in the natural world started at a young age, with experiences ranging from “tramping” adventures (that's Kiwi for hiking and backpacking) to family ski trips in New Zealand's Southern Alps. Growing up in both Nelson and Central Otago exposed him to some amazing pursuits—whitewater kayaking, rock climbing, and boating. Tom's love of the wilderness was furthered while completing a degree in botany at Otago University where he spent many days exploring the rugged trails of New Zealand's East Coast. From there he became a guide on the spectacular Hollyford track as well as working on ecological boat tours of Fiordland and Stewart Island. Tom's extensive knowledge of the local flora and fauna combined with his affinity with the outdoors make him a knowledgeable—and fun-loving!—Trip Leader. When not leading trips, Tom can be found in sunny Nelson, riding his mountain bike, hunting, tramping, and perfecting his fly-fishing skills.
