Bohdan Fashtryha

From a young age, Bohdan Fashtryha instantly took to the outdoor lifestyle. “The mountains became my second home,” he says. Originally from Yaremche, Ukraine, he has traveled to more than a dozen countries, discovering off-the-beaten-path mountain terrain and taking master classes in avalanche safety. He has been a mountain guide in the Carpathians since 2008. When not leading trips, Bohdan enjoys skiing, mountain biking, and extreme mountain marathons—he once completed 75 miles at an elevation that reached 19,000 feet in less than 22 hours!

Client Testimonials

Bohdan was exceptional. He went to great lengths to ensure everyone's needs were met and was always patient and kind. Nothing was too much trouble for him.
— Ashne L., Camas, WA
Great Carpathian Traverse
Bohdan has a remarkably extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna of the Carpathians, and of the traditions and the folklore of their people. He also knows quite a bit about the contemporary politics of the countries we visited. He kept us laughing, and his enthusiasm for all facets of the trip heightened our appreciation of all we were seeing. He is also warmly supportive of others—although he himself is a paradigm of athleticism (and entertained us with stories of climbing adventures), he kept pace with the slower members of the group on hikes, always in a spirit that made them feel comfortable with themselves. A gem!

Great Carpathian Traverse
Wonderful and fun personality, very calm, competent and easy-going. Bohdan made us feel very comfortable, welcome, and safe at all times.
— Sheila P., Prescott, AZ
Great Carpathian Traverse
Bohdan's youthful energy was welcomed and helpful. He was especially knowledgeable about Ukraine, open and honest. His joking and obvious love for the outdoors and helping others were a joy to have on the tour.
