Sea Kayaking in Baja route-map

Days 1-3
La Paz / Isla San Jose

After an overnight in colonial La Paz, we boat to our first beach camp, set in a beautiful spot on the exquisite wilderness island of San Jose. Baja is the ultimate meeting of desert and sea, and tonight we feast our eyes on the sheer Sierra Giganta mountains, a spectacular backdrop for our entire journey.

Day 4
Isla San Francisco

Exploring the shimmering turquoise waters between the wilderness islands of Isla San Jose and Isla San Francisco, we immerse ourselves in Baja’s superbly rich environment. Our daily schedule is delightful: we kayak, hike, or snorkel for several hours each morning, with afternoons for optional kayaking or hiking. As we explore, we visit fishing villages such as quaint El Pardito, featured in Peter Benchley’s book, The Girl of the Sea of Cortez. A support skiff accompanies us to carry camp supplies—including ice to keep our sodas, juice, beer, and margaritas cold! The meals prepared for us at camp are fresh and delicious, from beach barbecues of grilled fish to steak tacos with homemade guacamole.

Day 5
Snorkel with Sea Lions / Espiritu Santo

We head to 14-mile-long Espiritu Santo, a protected nature reserve and the most beautiful of all the islands in the Sea of Cortez, with its sheer red cliffs and crystalline waters. En route, we enjoy the memorable adventure of snorkeling and swimming among playful sea lions and their pups at the rock outcrops of Los Islotes.

Days 6-8
Espiritu Santo / La Paz

White-sand beaches, jagged bays, towering rock formations, volcanic arroyos, and a phenomenal amount of marine life make Espiritu Santo unforgettable. We enjoy a grand finale of paddling among leaping dolphins and snorkeling in an underwater universe of bright red starfish, azure parrot fish, and Cortez rainbow wrasse. We head back to La Paz on Day 7 and depart on Day 8.
