Herd of wildebeests crossing a river

Wildebeests in migration

The annual migration of wildebeests across the Serengeti ecosystem is one of the world's great wildlife spectacles. Their movements coincide with the annual pattern of rainfall and grass growth.  They are often accompanied by large herds of migrating zebras as they cross the open savannas. Staying in large groups reduces their predation risk.
