Fly to Stone Town, capital of Zanzibar. On arrival, you are met for a 45-minute drive from the airport to a deserted beach, where an open ski boat brings you to beautiful Mnemba Island, a gorgeous, reef-encircled private island that’s one of the most exclusive locations in the Indian Ocean. (It was chosen as one of Condé Nast Traveler’s “Most Romantic Ocean Destinations of the World.”) The coral reef that circles the island is the finest in Zanzibar, and this tiny island is also one of the few locations on this coast where turtles continue to nest undisturbed. Between December and May is turtle season, when these creatures can be seen in the water and on the beaches. Overnight in a private cottage.
The calm, warm seas here have unsurpassed visibility for snorkeling and scuba diving. Scuba diving (two dives a day), snorkeling, sea kayaking, and windsurfing activities are included in your stay at Mnemba Island. The lodge provides scuba and snorkeling equipment, or you can bring your own to ensure proper fit. Divers should be sure to bring their Dive Certification Cards. You can also take a dhow (traditional boat) into Stone Town to explore its labyrinthine streets and discover the history of this ancient spice island. Optional extras include a Spice Tour or a guided tour of historic Stone Town. Overnights at Mnemba Island.
Transfer to the airport and fly to Dar es Salaam, where you are transferred to the Holiday Inn (day room available until 6pm) to relax while you await transfer to the airport for the evening flight.
