Serengeti and Kilimanjaro Climb
Day 1
Arusha
Arrive in Arusha in the late evening and transfer to Moivaro Lodge.
Day 2
Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, transfer (about 2 hours) to Lake Manyara for a three-hour walking tour of the nearby village of Mto Wa Mbu with a local guide. The village is set on the shores of the lake, and the leisurely stroll through local homes, farmlands, kindergarten, and church gives a good introduction to daily life in a Tanzanian village. Continue to Lake Manyara Serena Lodge for overnight.
Day 3
Lake Manyara National Park
With the backdrop of the dramatic Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park is a great spot to enjoy mountain biking, walking, gameviewing, and fascinating village visits. The park is noted for its concentrations of hippos and diverse birdlife (more than 300 species of migratory birds, including masses of flamingos), and a mosaic of habitats ranging from marshes and forests to savannas and woodlands. The lake itself, which makes up most of the park, was claimed by Ernest Hemingway to be the “loveliest...in Africa.”Today you have the option of a full-day program that includes two of the following activities: a mountain biking safari, a village walk, forest walk, or gameviewing. A picnic lunch is included, with an early evening return to the lodge for dinner. Night drives in search of nocturnal birds and mammals not normally seen during the day are also available. Overnight at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge.
Day 4
Lake Manyara / Arusha
On your last day in the park, you can enjoy a three- to four-hour nature walk. The hike takes you north, descending into the Korongo Gorge between our lodge and Kirurumu. In the gorge, freshwater streams, fig trees, and amazing birds are everywhere. You follow the gorge all the way to Mto Wa Mbu, and from Mto Wa Mbu, you are driven back to the lodge. In the afternoon, transfer by vehicle to Arusha.
