Day 1
Pretoria (Johannesburg) / Board the Pride of Africa

At 3:00pm, depart Rovos Rail’s private Capital Park Station aboard the Pride of Africa to start a 700-mile journey from the grasslands of the gold-rich highveld landscape to the haunting barrenness of the Great Karoo, then through the spectacular mountain ranges and scenic winelands of the Cape to Cape Town, cradled by the imposing bulk of Table Mountain. Dinner and overnight aboard the train.

Day 2
Kimberley / Matjiesfontein village

Arrive in the mining city of Kimberley in the mid-morning. Our city tour includes a visit to the Big Hole, the world’s largest man-made excavation, and the Diamond Museum. In the afternoon, we depart and continue overnight via De Aar and Beaufort West to the village of Matjiesfontein, founded as a refreshment stop in 1890 and featuring an impressive museum on the platform.

Day 3
Matjiesfontein / Cape Town

After a morning visit to the historic village of Matjiesfontein, we depart and continue via Touws River, De Doorns, and Worcester to Cape Town, arriving in the evening.

Rovos Rail

Rovos Rail recaptures the romance of a bygone era, when travelers could experience the magic and mystery of Africa in an elegant fashion. Guests travel in wood-paneled coaches with period Edwardian features—classics refurbished to mint condition—and enjoy fine cuisine in luxury as the scenery unfolds beyond the windows. The trains may be hauled by steam, diesel, or electric locomotives at various stages of the journey, and carry a maximum of 72 passengers in 36 superbly appointed suites. All suites are air-conditioned and offer twin or spacious double beds and en suite bathrooms. There is also a bar-fridge and room service 24 hours a day.
