Day 1
Chennai / Fisherman’s Cove
Chennai (formerly Madras) is the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, a region known around the world for its temple architecture. With your private guide, tour nearby Kanchipuram, the most famous of Tamil Nadu’s “temple cities” and one of the seven sacred Hindu cities of India. With origins dating back to the 2nd century BC, “Kanchi” has had a colorful history and has been an important pilgrimage site throughout the years. Kanchipuram is also well known for the high quality silk saris woven here that are prized throughout India. Transfer to the Fisherman’s Cove Resort south of the city.
Day 2
Chennai / Mamallapuram
Tour nearby Mamallapuram (previously known as Mahabalipuram), a little seaside village known for its extraordinary rock-cut art, a legacy of the maritime Pallava Kingdom, for which Mamallapuram was a major port. The temple and cave complex here feature open-air bas-reliefs, rathas (chariots) carved from single boulders, the beautiful “Shore Temple” towering above the sea, and the famous low-relief carving known as “Arjuna’s Penance.” The temples are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 3
Chennai / Depart
The day is at leisure to enjoy Fisherman’s Cove. You will have a day room available at the hotel until 6 p.m. Transfer to the airport for flights departing late in the evening or very early the following morning.
