Total Solar Eclipse in Polynesia Photo Gallery

In July, 2009, Wilderness Travel hosted a wonderfully successful Total Solar Eclipse in Polynesia program aboard the luxurious Paul Gauguin. As we sailed the turquoise seas of the South Pacific with our esteemed Guest Speakers, the mobility of our ship paid rich dividends as the captain maneuvered us into a clear viewing position on Eclipse Day. We enjoyed three minutes and 24 seconds of “totality”—an awesome celestial phenomenon in a glorious setting. This was our 9th total solar eclipse, in 16 different locations, all viewed successfully! Along the way, the Polynesian culture was welcoming and the snorkeling was out of this world. Kudos to our great Guest Speakers: astronomers Alex Filippenko, Richard Fienberg, Owen Gingerich, climate scientist John Hay, and veteran WT Trip Leader and marine biologist Ethan Daniels.
