Mara Plains’ quiet location on a private conservancy on the northern border of the Masai Mara Game Reserve makes for a wonderful respite and near-private game viewing. Set on the banks of the Ntiakatek River, this secluded and intimate 7-room camp under canvas features octagonal-shaped rooms open on three sides with floor to ceiling net walls, hardwood floors scattered with fine oriental rugs, and en suite facilities with flush toilet and shower. Set on raised on decks with private verandas, they offer sweeping views of the savannas of the Masai Mara or the river where resident hippos hang out. There are also two lounges, a large dining area (when not dining under the stars!), and a campfire area that’s the focus of many an entertaining evening of story sharing. The managers and guides make you feel right at home and are adept at helping you get the most out of your safari.
