Mukaitaki Ryokan

Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan

Walk through the door of this wonderful, historic hot springs inn and feel like you’ve taken a step back in time. The inn’s finely crafted traditional wooden buildings are listed on Japan’s national registry as a “tangible cultural property.” Guest rooms are Japanese style with sliding shoji screens and tatami mat flooring. Here you’ll have the opportunity to bathe in five different springs—both indoor and outdoor—and dine on delicious meals. The Mukaitaki (meaning “facing the waterfall” in Japanese) has been managed by the Hirata family for more than 135 years.
