Mena House Oberoi

Giza, Egypt

People love this place for a compelling reason—it’s literally right across from the Pyramids. When you look out your hotel room window, there’s the massive Great Pyramid of Cheops looking right back at you! It’s quite a thrilling sight, and we always book Pyramid-view rooms. Location aside, the century-old Mena House is a fine hotel in its own right, with a historic wing, a modern wing, a lushly landscaped garden full of exotic bird calls. There’s history oozing out of the walls here—this is where Roosevelt and Churchill initiated the D-Day plan and where the formal signing of the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel took place. The staff is exceptionally helpful. To get to downtown Cairo from the Mena House, it’s about a 30- to 45-minute cab ride.
