The Strand Hotel Yangon
An institution in Yangon for more than a century, this hotel is the place where Rudyard Kipling penned much of The Jungle Book and Somerset Maughm whiled away the day in the lobby bar. It is centrally located and has been refurbished to retain its colonial charm. Guest rooms are large and well appointed, and the artwork in the public spaces celebrate the rich history of Burma. The lobby bar is cozy and cool (don’t miss enjoying High Tea or a gin and tonic here), with lazy ceiling fans spinning high above.
