Barrier Reef, Belize
This simple, laid-back resort, set on an island on Glover’s Reef, has a relaxed ambiance and features air-conditioned bungalows right on the beach—you can walk right from your room and go snorkeling! This represents a huge advantage over any mainland resort, which require a 2+ hour boat ride (each way!) to get to any quality dive or snorkeling sites. Each cabana has a private bathroom, hot and cold water, veranda, and hammock area. Family style meals feature local seafood, including conch or perhaps lobster, and yummy desserts. The over-the-water bar, set out at the end of the dock, is a great place to spend early evenings enjoying the sunset while sipping cocktails or watching the fish swim by—look for stingrays, parrotfish, tarpon, and the occasional nurse shark. The night sky is spectacular on this isolated reef.
