Mario Soto, born in Guatemala and also a US citizen, has more than 25 years experience as a professional guide in Central America. He has a passion for Maya archaeology and ethnology and a deep respect for Guatemala’s traditional cultures. Mario spent his senior year of high school in the US, then earned his professional guide’s license in Guatemala in 1978. Over the years, he has completed many specialty studies in the Maya world with Guatemala’s Institute of Anthropology and History and with the Tikal Association. When not guiding, Mario enjoys birdwatching, jogging, and bicycling. He resides in Mixco, Guatemala, and Keller, Texas.
