John Sanday, OBE, FSA, is a leading architectural conservator with more than three decades of field experience in Nepal, Cambodia, India, Bhutan, and China. He is the Regional Director for Asia and Pacific programs for Global Heritage Fund, a leading heritage conservation foundation. In recognition for his contribution to developing training programs and conserving many significant Asian historic buildings and sites, John was elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, London, and awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. At Preah Khan in Cambodia, John worked for more than 15 years to transform a highly endangered monument complex into one of Angkor’s main visitor sites. His current restoration and training project is at the vast temple complex of Banteay Chhmar, near the Cambodian border.
