Rajendra Rai, raised in the foothills of eastern Nepal below the mighty flanks of Mt. Makalu and Mt. Kanchenjunga, attended his local Himalaya Secondary School, then studied at Hattisar Science College in the Sunsari District in eastern Nepal. He completed numerous guide training courses and first aid workshops with the Nepal Tourism Board to gain his trekking credentials, and since 1990, he has worked continually as a professional guide. He loves the life of a trek leader and has extensive experience on the trails of the Everest and Annapurna regions as well as in the more remote Manaslu and Langtang regions, along with his home region of Makalu. He has a wide range of knowledge about many cultures of Nepal.
Raj was always positive and upbeat, with a pace that assured every member of the trip had an enjoyable and fulfilling trip. His contacts at Tengboche and Namche monasteriess gave us more of an insider's look at the Buddhist culture.
Raj has a great laugh and was always willing to do extra for the group. He took real concern about everything, no matter how small. My favorite comment from him: 'nothng is impossible.'
Raj has a passion for the mountains and always made you feel safe.
Raj Rai is excellent. Best guide/representative we have met.
Raj was fantastic—he not only took good care of us, he was so sincere and really was the glue for the entire team!
