Born in Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa “capital,” Bhala Kaji Magar graduated with studies in English, sociology, and anthropology and decided to take on the life of a trekking guide in his local mountains. He completed numerous training courses with Nepal’s Tourism Board and has been a trek leader for over 10 years, starting when he was just 20 years old. A veteran of many treks to Everest Base Camp and the Annapurna region, Bhala is the father of twin daughters and enjoys playing soccer and guitar.
Bhala was fabulous! Extremely knowledgable and professional throughout the trip.
What an ambassador for Nepal—a credit to his profession and his country. We could not have been taken care of any better.
Bala was so kind and caring, probably one of the best guides we have ever experienced on any trip. His expertise on the trails was fantastic.
Bala was just great, and we learned a great deal about the people of the Everest Region.
Trekking with Bala was a culture and history lesson all at once. His love for the Everest region is infectious. He was simply the best.
I cannot say enough good things about Bala. Not only did he take good care of everyone in the group, but he gave us a memorable cultural experience as well. Moreover, having grown up in Namche Bazar, he knows everyone in the region, and was able to add some special experiences I'm sure would not have been available with another guide.
Bala was an OUTSTANDING trip leader. Every day he went above and beyond to make sure all members of the trip were having the best experience possible. He shared the wonderful Sherpa culture with all us, which added another dimension to our trip...Bala is a real gem and strong addition to the WT experience!
Bala was GREAT! He really made the trip for us. Very knowledgeable and used his local contacts to provide added value. He and his team were critical to the success of the trip.
Bala consistently added value to our adventure. He was so knowledgeable and connected to the people and the places. He made the trip extra, extra special.
Bala is an ambassador for his country and his people. Words cannot express what a great asset he is. I have never had a more competent, professional, and caring trip leader ever before. He is the best!
Bala was an outstanding trip leader! As a sherpa and former resident of Namche Bazaar, he was eager to share his culture with us, including taking us to the Saturday market, bringing us to the local monastery to receive a blessing by the local lama, taking us for tea with the locals, and bringing us to visit his former elementary school. As a student of sociology and anthropology, Bala was also very knowledgable and willing to share information about the history, culture, and socio-political situation in Nepal, which greatly enriched the experience.
A credit to his profession and his country. What an ambassador for Nepal. We could not have been taken care of any better.
Bala knows everyone on the mountain, and had many discussions with us about issues and topics that the group brought up. He is so special that when he would be bringing up the rear of the group he would stop and pick up trash to ‘clean his mountain home.’
Bala was so kind, caring, and probably one of the best guides we have ever experienced on any trip. Because he was a local, his knowledge of the area was tremendous and his expertise on the trails fantastic. We loved him and highly recommend him to others!
Bala is the best trip leader I ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable, and it was a huge plus that he was right from this area and grew up there and had a lot of connections. He was very caring and had the best of each and every trip member in mind.
Bala was an amazing trip leader. Really the best! He has so much knowledge of the area and the people, and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and happy.
Bala was a superb guide. His knowledge and experience very much deepened our understanding of the Khumbu and its people. He truly took care of our little group so that each participant's needs and interests were met.
