James Kivuyo was born in the foothills of Mt. Meru in Tanzania and graduated from Arusha Technical College in 1998. He later attended the College of African Wildlife Management, with a major in Natural Resources Management and field work in Kenya and Uganda. A professional mountain guide since 1999, he has climbed Kilimanjaro many times and is one of only a handful of Tanzanian guides specially trained to lead walking safaris inside Serengeti National Park. James has traveled extensively in the US to present slide shows about Tanzania. During one visit, he climbed Mt. Baker in the North Cascades in Washington State on an advanced mountaineering course. He is Wilderness First Responder-certified and speaks English, Masai, Swahili, and Chagga.
