Kevin Floerke

Kevin is an archaeologist, educator, and photographer specializing in the cultures of the Andes. After graduating from UCLA, he worked with the Smithsonian Institute to research and map the Inca Road System around Cusco, Peru. He has also worked with Wilderness Travel Trip Leader and National Geographic Explorer Peter Frost to research the cloud forest of the Vilcabamba. Kevin’s love for exploration, conservation, and photography has allowed him to become intimately familiar with both the exquisite landscape and fascinating history of the Andean regions—he even made the ascent of a glacial peak that was venerated from the Inca site of Choquequirao! "This is an area that is close to my heart," he says. "For the past several years I have been exploring and studying the region’s history, as well as fighting to protect its unparalleled natural beauty. It is a place with one of the most fascinating histories in the Andes." When not researching or leading trips, Kevin travels the world with college students teaching semesters abroad, and photographs as many of the world's beautiful locations and intriguing cultures as he can find. Without a doubt, his heart lies in the Andes, and he is very excited to share his knowledge and passion for the sacred landscape of the Incas with WT adventurers.
