Itinerary-in-Brief
Days 1-2 Kathmandu, Nepal
In this fabled city, we explore narrow streets, golden temples, and fascinating artisan markets.
Days 3-7 Lukla / Namche / Khumjung / Tengboche
Flying to the Khumbu region, we trek to the beautiful Sherpa villages of Khunde and Khumjung and on to stunning Tengboche Monastery (12,500'), where Everest’s summit is visible in the distance. In this spectacular location, Kangtega (22,235') and Thamserku (21,674') loom directly over us, and Ama Dablam (22,494'), one of the most spectacular peaks in the whole of the Himalaya, rises regally just up the valley.
Days 8-11 Ama Dablam Base Camp / Chukhung Ri
From the climbers’ base camp below Ama Dablam, we get amazing perspectives of the icy giants of the Everest region and Ama Dablam’s fluted ice walls. In the Chukhung Valley, options include hiking up Chukhung Ri, with its panoramas of the famous trio of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse.
Days 12-14 Kala Patar / Everest Base Camp
We hike to Kala Patar (18,365') for classic views of Everest’s Southwest Face and also to Everest Base Camp, with our base in a trekkers’ lodge in Lobuche (16,400').
Days 15-19 Cho La / Gokyo Ri
Crossing the snow-covered Cho La Pass (17,780') brings us to Gokyo Valley for a hike up Gokyo Ri (17,500'), with top-of-the-world views: four of the eight highest peaks in the world—Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse and Makalu—are visible from here.
Days 20-25 Lukla / Kathmandu
Return trek to Lukla, fly to Kathmandu on Day 23, depart on Day 25, or join our Taj Mahal, Lhasa, or Tiger Tops extensions
Lhasa Extension Days 14-18
Fly to the roof of the world to explore Lhasa, Tibet’s Holy City, with its extraordinary Potala Palace, Barkhor Bazaar, and massive monasteries like Drepung, a former Buddhist university cradled in rock ridges west of Lhasa.
