Cape Town, Wine Country, and the Great Game Reserves
Adventuring in South Africa
Breathtaking trails through indigenous forests, misty mountains graced with Bushman rock paintings, stunning seascapes along the Indian Ocean, prime savannas teeming with big game—South Africa has the most diverse landscapes on the African continent. Our adventure is a deluxe one, with accommodations that keep us close to the natural wonders. We explore “the fairest Cape,” explore the dramatic Tsitsikamma and Otter Trails above a turquoise sea, stay at a beautiful wine estate in Franschhoek, and hike in the craggy Drakensbergs (Dragon’s Mountains). We top it all off with phenomenal game viewing by open vehicle in Sabi Sand Private Reserve. This famed sanctuary has an unfenced boundary with Kruger that givesit the highest wildlife diversity in Africa.

Itinerary-in-Brief
Days 1-4 Cape Town / Cape Peninsula / Winelands
Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, a spectacular
meeting of mountain and sea. We hike on Table Mountain, visit historic
Robben Island, and explore the celebrated beauty of the Cape Peninsula.
Overnights are at the Commodore Hotel, a 4-four star oasis of comfort
at the highest point of the vibrant Victoria & Alfred waterfront,
plus a night in a delightful lodge in the heart of wine country, surrounded
by vineyards and mountains.
Days 5-7 The Garden Route
Forested mountains push right to the coast on the Garden Route, South Africa’s spectacular southeast coast. We hike through indigenous forests in Tsitsikamma National Park on the renowned Otter and Tsitsikamma trails, skirting along and above the azure Indian Ocean. Overnights are at The Fernery at Forest Ferns in secluded chalets atop a river gorge.
Days 8-10 Drakensberg Mountains
The Drakensbergs are one of the most striking mountain massifs in the world, an extraordinary fantasia of cliffs, buttresses, and sharp ridges. In this hikers’ paradise, our paths bring us wondrous mountain views as well as an outdoor museum of Bushman rock art. Our mountain lodge is set at 4,000 feet in the northern Drakensberg Mountains.
Days 11-15 Timbavati Private Game Reserve / Kruger
The one of the most prestigious game park in South Africa, Timbavati Private Game Reserve is known for having the countrys best big five gameviewing (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, buffalo, and elephant). The reserve adjoins Kruger National Park, and the combined ecosystem offers one of the highest wildlife populations in Africa. Timbavati is also famed for its concentration of leopards. Morning and night game drives in open 4WD vehicles and bush walks with an armed ranger and tracker bring us an incredible grand finale in South Africa. Our game lodges offer candlelit dinners served under a canopy of stars.
