Itinerary-in-Brief

Days 1-2
Coral Gardens of Nikko Bay

At a unique crossroads of three of the world’s major ocean currents, Palau is blessed with unspoiled coral reefs that offer an unmatched wealth of marine life, coral formations, blue holes, huge caverns, and an immense variety of rare species. All of these natural wonders are easily accessible from clear, warm, inviting waters in which visibility often exceeds 200 feet. From a lovely beachfront resort overlooking the broad Pacific, join your guide to discover these waters by sea kayak in sheltered Nikko Bay. With its pristine coral and hidden sea caves full of geologic wonders, this bay is a wilderness delight. A series of optional cliff jumps into blue waters adds adrenaline to the day! Exploration is in open-top sea kayaks. Kayakers of all abilities are welcome, and no prior experience is necessary. On our Deluxe Option, you enjoy your own private guide and private boat, with a journey tailored to your interest and a chance to visit more remote sites. On our First Class Option, you join a small group of other adventurers each day on your snorkeling or dive adventures.

Days 3-4
The Rock Islands

Paddle the phenomenally scenic Rock Islands, one of the natural masterpieces of the Pacific, where hundreds of luxuriant limestone outcrops jut straight up from the sea. These mushroom-shaped rock formations present a dramatic example of how an uplifted ancient reef eroded away into islands, lakes, lagoons, undercuts, and archways. Some of the Rock Islands are only 20 feet wide, while others are over a mile long, and there’s nothing else like them in all of Micronesia. Your discovery begins in protected waters, snorkeling in unique marine lakes, over sea grass beds and surreal giant clams, and into brilliantly colorful coral gardens. At secluded Jellyfish Lake, venture into crystal-clear waters for the ethereal experience of snorkeling among thousands of tiny, shimmering, stingless jellyfish. At Risong Bay, paddle into inner lagoon nurseries for baby sharks and tropical fish, and snorkel at a turquoise oasis called Mandarin Fish Lake, whose wonders include stunning corals and the only salt-water waterfall in Palau.

Days 5
Babeldoab

Volcanic Babeldoab Island is covered with dense rainforest and dotted with traditional villages. Head out by 4WD to explore among jungle-draped hills, fabulous waterfalls, and evocative World War II sites, and visit a local village with a 200-year-old bai (men’s meeting house). Overnights on Days 1-5 at Palau Pacific Resort.

Days 6-8
Carp Island

Head to the outer reef environment for unforgettable experiences including snorkeling over vertical walls that descend to depths of over thousands of feet. On secluded Carp Island at the far end of the Rock Islands, you have fantastic access to Palau’s awesome outer reefs, legendary among divers for their deep blue holes, drop-offs, and sheer walls. Enjoy best-of-the-best snorkeling here, with translucent seas, kaleidoscopic coral gardens, rays, turtles, and an overwhelming profusion of reef fish, some of them unique to the Pacific. There are more than 700 species of coral in Palau, quadruple the number in the Caribbean. This is a place one can really experience Palau as the “underwater Serengeti” of our planet.

Day 9
Koror

Return to the Palau Pacific Resort in Koror, with a half-day tour of the island or a chance for birding and exploring caves. A day room will be held for you until you transfer to the airport for flights departing after midnight.
