We discover an ancient world between the desert and the sea as we sail from Egypt to Morocco aboard the all-suite Corinthian II. In Egypt, we cast our eyes on the sheer wonder of the Great Pyramids before voyaging to the palm-fringed coast of Libya, with its alluring collection of perfect Greco-Roman cities by the sea. Our westward arc brings us to remarkable places including the haunting World War II battlefields at Tubruq, the walled holy city of Kairouan, and Tangier, meeting point of Africa and Europe, with its casbah, sultan’s palace, and lively café life. Our guest lecturers, including distinguished archaeologist Nancy Wilkie, PhD, offer fascinating historical and cultural perspectives along the way.

In Cairo, we visit the fabled Great Pyramids at Giza, the enigmatic Sphinx, and the dazzling Egyptian Museum of Antiquities. We drive the Desert Road to Alexandria and board the Corinthian II on Day 3. After exploring ancient Alexandria, we set sail.
We sail west to the harbor town of Tubruq to visit the monumental World War II battle sites and cemeteries. We make a full-day excursion to the 7th century BC Greek city of Cyrene, a World Heritage Site, and Apollonia, Cyrene’s beautiful port for a thousand years. Day 7 is at sea.
At stunning Leptis Magna, we walk the marble-lined streets of one of the most extraordinary ancient sites in the Mediterranean. This glorious coastal city was the home of Septimius Severus, who became Emperor of Rome in 193 AD. We explore Tripoli’s classic walled Old Town, then travel to the fine Roman city of Sabratha, set by the sea and famed for its extraordinary colonnaded Roman theater.
We visit El Djem’s great Roman amphitheater, then explore Kairouan, the spiritual capital of Tunisia, enclosed in its original walls. At storied Carthage, we tour the Bardo Museum, with its world-renowned Roman mosaics, and roam the medina. Day 13 is at sea.
Our three days in Algeria include Tipasa’s ancient temples overlooking the Mediterranean and the Villa of Frescoes, a Roman mansion on the water’s edge. We head inland to explore Tlemcen, with its fine architectural heritage. Tlemcen’s Great Mosque was built in the 11th century. Day 16 is at sea.
Long a haunt of artists and writers, Tangier is a city for strolling narrow alleys in the medina and visiting the Dar el Makhzen, former palace of the sultans. On Day 19, we disembark in Casablanca
