A 3-day Symposium in Botswana’s Chobe Nat'l Park & Safari Programs throughout Southern Africa

Total Solar Eclipse in PolynesiaTotal Solar Eclipse in Polynesia

Featuring Astronomer Alex Filippenko, PhD • July 15-29, 2009

A total solar eclipse is one of nature’s most dramatic phenomena, when the sun, moon, and earth are perfectly aligned and darkness washes over the earth in daylight. We invite you to experience this awesome event aboard the luxurious Paul Gauguin on the turquoise seas of the South Pacific. Our ship gives us the maximum flexibility to maneuver to the ideal viewing position on Eclipse Day and offers every comfort as we journey among Polynesia’s magnificent isles and coral lagoons. Astronomer Alex Filippenko, PhD, one of UC Berkeley’s most popular professors, will accompany us to share his expert knowledge—his 7th eclipse program with us!

Aug 18–Sep 3, 2007

Kalahari Desert, Moremi Game Reserve, Okavango Delta

This unique expedition brings us deep into the fabled Kalahari to meet the San people, the skilled hunter-gatherers whose African heritage dates back 30,000 years. To sit around the fire in the evening and listen to their songs, and perhaps witness a trance dance, is to travel back in time to the dawn of humankind. In our days with the San, we stay in full-service tented camps and are joined by our Guest Speaker Mike Main, an authority on the tribes and rock art of Botswana. In addition to our cultural interactions, we enjoy a classic gameviewing safari on the jewel-green waterways of the Okavango Delta in Moremi Game Reserve, with its high game densities, and in ethereal Xugana Lagoon, the quintessential Delta setting.

Nkwali Camp and Nsefu Camp, Plus Game Tracking On Foot in Africa’s Wilds

Zambia is an untouched African wilderness, remote and wild, its amazing diversity of wildlife shy and unused to humans. An African
environment as untamed as it was 50 years ago, Zambia is known as “Insiders’ Africa,” the place for breathtaking leopard sightings, walking safaris in magical riparian forests, and low-key wilderness lodges where guests are welcomed as family. The heart of our Zambia journey is an
exciting and authentic four-day walking safari based out of light tented camps as we track animals with an experienced ranger-guide in the majesty of South Luangwa National Park—3,500 square miles of unspoiled Africa.
