Brian
McGilloway is a professional travel photographer whose work has
been featured in many national magazines including National Geographic
Traveler and Travel Holiday. He has photographed more than
30 trips on assignment for Wilderness Travel over the past ten years and
is a major contributor to our award-wining catalog. Brian is also the
recipient of Kodak's prestigious Crystal Merit Award for his
images of southwest China and a graduate of the Brooks Institute of Photography.
During photography journeys with Brian, trip members have the chance to move up to their next level of creative camera expression, regardless of their current level of expertise. Along the way, Brian offers photo tips and coaching on technique as trip members enjoy their cultural explorations. In that way, Brian's photo tours with Wilderness Travel are different from the many highly technical and often competitive travel photography workshops offered, since Brian's photo journeys are open to all types of photography and certainly to non-photographers as well. Generally, the photography is geared toward the 35mm SLR camera format, but all formats are welcome. Brian is a natural teacher with a wonderful sense of humor that has made him a favorite with trip members on his Wilderness Travel assignments. "During my WT trips as an assigned photographer, there were always a few "shutterbugs" in the group who asked me how they could improve their pictures. Helping anyone from serious hobbyists to point-and-shooters is very rewarding for me, and I loved receiving their photos after the trips showing me how great their pictures look." We operated our first photography tour with Brian in 2003 in Ireland and it was a great success. As always in the field of travel photography, the daily agenda for Brian's photo tours is adjustable to take advantage of serendipitous photo opportunities as they come along, and the itinerary is designed around places and events that are visually compelling and exciting. |
